My Story

Peace Corps - Brazil - 1974 - 1976

I read an article in Life Magazine when I was a junior in high school (John Rundle High School) that explained the potential of Brazil as the last frontier. I decided I wanted to go to Brazil and the only way I thought that would be possible would be through the Peace Corps. I knew that an agricultural degree would be helpful in getting into the Peace Corps so I majored in Agronomy at Mississippi State University. I was scheduled to graduate in the Spring of 1974 and I applied and was accepted to enter the Peace Corps that summer. On my application I had indicated that Brazil was my No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 choice (I didn't want any other country). I was later told that it was rare to have someone get their preference by limiting their choice to only one country. I will tell the story of Brazil on these pages.

Let me start by introducing my Peace Corps Group.
