The New York Times database on Unaccompanied Children (UC) placement in the United States from January 2015 through May 2023 shows that over 1,500 Unaccompanied Children under 18 were placed in zip codes within the Justice Pyramid of Annandale, Virginia. The Office of Refugee Resettlement in the Department of Health and Human Services placed children in the following zip codes:
Zip Code 22041 - 1,051 Unaccompanied Children (UC) were placed here from 2015 – 2023. According to the US Census, the total population is 28,718, with 26 percent of residents under 19 years of age, or 7,467 youth. This means Unaccompanied Children (UC) could account for approximately 7% of all students enrolled in Glenn Forest, Bailey’s, Park Lawn, and Belvedere elementary schools and Justice High School.1 The gender of the UC was 664 male and 387 female youth, with 56 percent arriving in the US since 2019.
